SME Survey is a research and marketing project that explores, among other topics, the role played by Black Economic Empowerment, the importance of access to expertise, finances and resources, and the role played by information technology such as the Internet, networking and business software in the competitiveness of small, medium and micro enterprises in South Africa.

SME Survey is backed by SME Insight (Pty) Ltd., a company made up of experienced individuals from Netsurit, World Wide Worx, Coolcumba Communications and Fizz Marketing Services.
SME Survey has conducted extensive research into what makes SMEs (1 - 200 staff) competitive in SA since 2002. SME Survey 2006, sponsored by Standard Bank and Oracle Corporation, surveyed some 6,000 SME decision-makers from all vertical sectors, making this the largest SME research survey yet conducted in SA. SME Survey 2007 is underway. Sponsored by Standard Bank and Fujitsu Siemens Computers it is targeting close to 5,000 SMEs.
The research component is supported by a PR and marketing campaign which creates SME Survey brand awareness, communicates the key findings in the form of press releases and positions the key sponsors that support SME Survey year-on-year.
Coolcumba Communications is responsible for SME Survey’s PR and marketing initiatives and external communications via e-mail and the Web site.
